The Minnesota Vikings inquired about trading for Carolina Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team seeks to bolster its receiving corps amid injuries and suspensions. With Jordan Addison facing a three-game suspension and Jalen Nailor sidelined by a hand injury, Thielen could start in the Vikings’ season opener if the trade is finalised.
Thielen, a 35-year-old Minnesota native and former Vikings star, spent nine seasons with the team, amassing 534 receptions for 6,682 yards and 55 touchdowns. His familiarity with head coach Kevin O’Connell’s system and prior chemistry with star receiver Justin Jefferson make him a seamless fit. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero noted, “Thielen knows exactly what Kevin O’Connell wants to do,” highlighting his potential to address the Vikings’ immediate needs.

The Vikings’ urgency stems from a depleted receiver group. Addison’s suspension and Nailor’s week-to-week injury, combined with the loss of Rondale Moore for the season, have left the team thin at the position. Thielen, who led the Panthers with 1,014 receiving yards in 2023 despite a 2024 hamstring injury, is in the final year of a three-year, $25 million contract, making him a viable trade target.
A proposed trade by Heavy Sports suggests the Vikings could offer a 2026 sixth-round pick to acquire Thielen, leveraging their $26.4 million cap space. The Panthers, focusing on younger receivers like Tetairoa McMillan and Xavier Legette, may be open to the deal to gain draft capital.=
If completed, the trade could reunite Thielen with Minnesota fans, boosting the team’s offence for their Week 1 matchup against the Chicago Bears. The move aligns with the Vikings’ strategy to add veteran depth, potentially alongside another receiver with punt-return skills, per The Athletic. As negotiations continue, Thielen’s return could reshape the Vikings’ 2025 season outlook.
