NASHVILLE, Tennessee: It was supposed to be a night celebrating Vanderbilt’s upset victory over No. 10 LSU. However, quarterback Diego Pavia wasn’t the only one capturing national attention.
Following the Commodores’ 31–24 win at FirstBank Stadium on Saturday, Pavia appeared in a live postgame interview alongside his mother, Antoinette Padilla. The internet quickly erupted with admiration and curiosity.
Within minutes, Padilla’s youthful appearance became a trending topic, with clips of the interview circulating widely across social media. What was meant to be a football celebration soon turned into a viral moment that stole the spotlight.
This wasn’t Padilla’s first time in the public eye. Earlier in the season, fans took notice of her during Vanderbilt’s 31–7 win over South Carolina. Cameras caught her in the stands cheering for her son. That appearance sparked online buzz tied to a lighthearted bet between Diego Pavia and comedian Theo Von.
POWERFUL: Vanderbilt star quarterback Diego Pavia on GOD after beating number 10 LSU.
“It got overwhelming the last few weeks… I wasn’t really chasing God, so He was there to humble me… I just wanna chase Him and encourage everyone to chase Him.”

Before the South Carolina game, Von, known for his Louisiana humour and podcast antics, jokingly wagered that if Vanderbilt won, he would get to take Pavia’s mother out on a date. Pavia played along, replying that the comedian would first need to help him score a date with pop star Tate McRae in return.
When the Commodores defeated the Gamecocks, fans flooded social media, tagging both men and asking if Von would follow through. Though the “date” never happened, the story spread quickly, turning both Pavia and Padilla into viral sensations.

After Vanderbilt’s latest win, Pavia reignited the joke, posting on X (formerly Twitter) that “the deal still stands” if Von can keep his side of the bargain.
Following the LSU victory, online attention once again shifted to Antoinette Padilla. Her on-camera appearance with her son drew admiration and laughter across social media. Users on X and TikTok flooded feeds with screenshots and memes, calling her “the real MVP.”
While the internet focused on Padilla, Diego Pavia remained locked in on football. The win over LSU improved Vanderbilt’s record to 8–2. This secured bowl eligibility for the first time in several seasons. Known for his leadership and dual-threat ability, Pavia has become one of the SEC’s breakout stars. He has helped transform Vanderbilt from underdog to contender.
