Punjab’s Minister of Information Uzma Bukhari faces criticism during a private shopping trip in Murree.
Videos circulating on social media showed Uzma Bukhari and her family shopping without any official escort when several bystanders began chanting, “Shame, Shame.” This led to an immediate response from PML-N supporters present, who countered with their slogans.
The incident has sparked considerable online discussion, with footage showing that Bukhari continued her activities undisturbed despite the hostile chants, including some praises for Imran Khan. A social media user noted that chants of “Imran Khan Zindabad” (Long live Imran Khan) broke out unexpectedly during her outing.
Further complicating her day, when visiting the Patriata Chairlift, a popular local attraction, Bukhari chose to forego any special treatment and queue like regular visitors. This part of her visit was also shared widely, highlighting her approachable manner.
Local shopkeepers intervened to remove a disruptive individual from the scene, while other vendors and families supported Bukhari and the PML-N. Throughout the trip, many families seized the opportunity to take selfies with the minister.
The Punjab Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has entrusted Bukhari with an additional role as the Minister of Culture, further broadening her responsibilities within the provincial government.
