The US government in a travel advisory for its embassy staff in Pakistan inform to temporarily shut consulate in Peshawar owing to serious security concerns and extended the ‘temporary closure’ of its Lahore mission for consular services.
The advisory stated that militants operatives in Pakistan are intending to target national and foreign facilities in Pakistan as they already had hit citizens, military installations and airport.
The State Department’s advisory warned the US citizens and other Westerners living currently in Pakistan to limit the frequency and duration of their visits to public places including markets and restaurants.
It should be mentioned here that that six months ago, the US ordered to evacuate all non-essential staff from its Lahore consulate owing to ‘renovation’ and terror threats.
US officials in Islamabad were instructed to limit the frequency of their travel and minimise duration of trips to public markets, restaurants, and other locations.
It highlighted the threat to US citizens and Westerners who are prone to be targeted by terrorists groups in addition to attacks on APS, Wagah and Karachi airport.
