The United States has deployed an aircraft carrier and supporting warships to the Middle East, according to US officials who spoke to Reuters.
The move increases President Donald Trump’s options to defend US forces and respond to rising tensions with Iran.
The USS Abraham Lincoln and several guided-missile destroyers have entered the region under the US Central Command’s jurisdiction. US officials said the ships crossed into the area after redeploying from the Asia-Pacific earlier this month.
Last week, Trump said the United States had an “armada” heading toward Iran. He added that he hoped military force would not be necessary. The deployment followed heightened tensions after Iranian authorities cracked down on nationwide protests.

Trump had warned of possible intervention if Iran continued killing protesters. In recent days, he said reports showed the violence had eased. He also said there was no current plan to carry out executions of detained protesters.
US Reinforces Air and Naval Assets
Beyond naval forces, the Pentagon has deployed fighter jets and air defence systems into the region.
Over the weekend, the US military announced a regional exercise. The drill aims to show its ability to deploy and sustain combat airpower quickly. A senior Iranian official warned last week that any attack would trigger an “all-out war” against Iran.
US force buildups in the Middle East have often been defensive in nature. However, Washington staged a major military surge last year before launching strikes on Iran’s nuclear programme.

The United Arab Emirates said on Monday it would not allow its airspace, land, or territorial waters to support any hostile action against Iran.
The US operates Al Dhafra Air Base, located south of Abu Dhabi. The base plays a key role in US Air Force missions, including operations against the Islamic State and regional surveillance.
Officials say the deployments aim to deter escalation while protecting US interests. The regional situation remains tense, with diplomacy and military readiness running in parallel.
