The true circumstances of the reported police encounter in Nawab Town, Lahore, have been unveiled, showing that the police distorted events. Initially depicted as a shootout due to a financial quarrel, further investigation reveals a more complex scenario involving an unauthorized police operation.
Details have emerged that officers from Pakpattan police, dressed in plain clothes, travelled to Lahore to apprehend businessman Yousuf Butt. These officers did not notify the local Lahore police of their operation. Upon entering Yusuf Butt’s residence, his mother, mistaking them for intruders, raised an alarm. This misunderstanding led Yusuf Butt to open fire, resulting in the death of one officer and injuries to another.
In an attempt to manage the situation, Pakpattan police allegedly placed the deceased officer in a uniform posthumously at the hospital. Subsequently, officers returned to the Butt residence, where they fatally shot Faisal Butt, another individual involved.
The official police narrative stated that during the encounter, the police were met with gunfire upon approach, prompting them to return fire, which resulted in Faisal Butt’s death and the escape of another suspect. This portrayal of events has been contested by emerging facts from the investigation.
