The suicide attempt case involving a female student at the University of Lahore has taken a new turn after police arrested a young man connected to the incident.
Police identified the suspect as Ahmed Bilal. Officers arrested him from Narang Mandi in the Sheikhupura district, which is also the student’s hometown.
Investigators said the student chose to marry Ahmed Bilal. Her family opposed the decision and urged her to continue her education instead. The disagreement reportedly caused severe emotional distress.
According to police, the student’s last phone call before the incident was made to Ahmed Bilal. After the call, she deleted his contact details from her mobile phone.

Police have recorded statements from the student’s family as part of the ongoing investigation. The student remains under medical treatment and has not yet regained consciousness.
Authorities confirmed that she suffered critical injuries after falling from an upper floor of a university building. This incident marks the second such case reported at the university within 15 days. Last month, a male student, Owais Sultan, died after a similar fall at the same institution.
Investigators said the student arrived on campus at 7:58 am but did not attend her class. She stayed on a phone call for nearly 27 minutes before the incident occurred around 8:30 am.
Family members also told police they had purchased her a new mobile phone a day earlier due to technical issues with her previous device. Police said further findings will emerge after completing the investigation
