A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) crew member named Muntazir Mehdi has reportedly gone “missing” in Toronto, Canada, under circumstances that have yet to be explained.
Mehdi, who arrived from Lahore via flight PK-798, was expected to report to his hotel along with his colleagues but did not show up. His unexplained absence came to light when he failed to show up for the return flight to Pakistan, leading to subsequent notification of PIA management and Canadian immigration authorities.
This is not the first incident, as before Mehdi, four other attendants from the national airline reportedly fled to Canada to apply for citizenship.
Recurring Incidents of PIA Crew Disappearances
In a similar incident last year, Ramzan Gul, another PIA flight attendant, went missing in Canada following the landing of flight PK-798 in Toronto. PIA’s spokesperson confirmed that Gul was part of the crew that flew from Islamabad on the national carrier’s flight.
PIA officials affirmed that they fulfilled their obligation of notifying the Canadian immigration authority when a crew member who received certification under the General Declaration went missing. The series of mysterious disappearances of PIA flight attendants raises questions about the crew’s intentions and the security measures to prevent such instances.
