Antonio Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General  (UNSG), urged the IMF, World Bank, and international community to help Pakistan deal with the damage of the exceptional floods.

Antonio Guterres also asked the interim Afghan government not to allow terrorist groups to use Afghan soil to attack Pakistan.

Guterres said the UN is talking with Afghanistan’s interim government at a year-end press conference.

He stated the Taliban must fulfill foreign and Afghan objectives.

The UNSG encouraged the IMF, World Bank, and the international community to help Pakistan recover from the July-September floods.

The UNSG said Pakistan needed considerable support for restoration work because one-third of the country is underwater.

The secretary-general and Shehbaz Sharif will co-host the Geneva summit.

Guterres said he’s in touch with the IMF and World Bank and hopes they’ll help Pakistan.

Floods have killed over 1700 people and affected 33 million in Pakistan, according to the UN chief.
