Ukrainian model Sawa Pontyjska has filed a legal complaint against the Cannes Film Festival. She claims a security guard assaulted her on the red carpet. Pontyjska, also a presenter for FashionTV, reported that she was “brutally” restrained while holding a valid ticket for the premiere of Marcello Mio. She felt terrified during the “bear hug” incident, she told BBC News.
This case has garnered substantial attention, partly due to a TikTok video of the altercation that amassed over 16 million views. The footage shows the guard physically restraining Pontyjska at the festival’s Palais des Festivals entrance. After a brief struggle where she almost fell, additional security intervened, leading her inside.
The incident has sparked broader discussions on guest treatment at high-profile events. Notably, singer Kelly Rowland and actors Yoona and Massiel Taveras faced similar challenges with the same guard. Pontyjska has since sought 100,000 euros in damages for “physical assault and psychological damage,” claiming her reputation suffered.
In response, she shared on social media the documents filed against the festival organizers, who have yet to comment on the allegations. This legal action underscores her intent to seek justice and highlights the need for event organizers to ensure the safety and respect of all attendees. Such incidents prompt reevaluating security measures at major events to prevent future occurrences.
