Ukraine’s Air Force successfully shot down a Russian Su-35 fighter jet in the Kursk region, marking a significant blow to Russia’s air capabilities.
According to Reuters, the Ukraine Su-35 shootdown 2025 occurred during a morning operation, as confirmed by the Ukrainian military via Telegram.
The Ukrainian military reported, “This morning, on June 7, 2025, a Russian Su-35 was shot down in the Kursk direction,” but provided no further details on the engagement method or exact location, per Ukrinform.
The Su-35, a 4.5-generation multirole fighter valued at $85 million, is among Russia’s most advanced non-stealth jets, equipped with Irbis-E radar and thrust-vectoring engines, per Eurasian Times. Since Russia’s 2022 invasion, at least 10 Su-35s have been lost. This Kursk military operation follows a June 1 SBU drone attack that damaged over 40 Russian aircraft, including Tu-95 and Tu-22 bombers, per Kyiv Independent.
Ukraine has intensified its air defence efforts, supported by Western-supplied F-16s and electronic warfare tactics that exploit gaps in Russian radar. The loss of a Russian Su-35 jet highlights Ukraine’s increasing ability to challenge Russia’s air superiority, particularly in border regions such as Kursk, where a significant incursion in 2024 marked a historic offensive.
The Ukrainian Air Force focuses on protecting key cities, such as Kharkiv. The shootdown of a Ukrainian Su-35 during the Kursk military operation in 2025 highlights the advancement of Ukraine’s air defence tactics amid the ongoing conflict.
