Uber announces green, yellow cabs customers on board in Punjab

Uber Pakistan has signed an Memorandum of Understanding with the Bank of Punjab to bring Green Cab and Yellow Cab customers under the Uber platform.

Uber Pakistan and Bank of Punjab have consented to work together for over 50,000 Green Cab and Yellow Cab customers and help them in their economic uplift and improve their ability to earn more.

Safee Shah, GM Uber Pakistan said the partnership builds further on the flexibility, entrepreneurial opportunity and earning potential of Uber’s innovative technology along with BOP’s financial expertise to bring about a positive change in the earnings of Green Cab and Yellow Cab customers.

Salman Alam Shah, Head Retail Finance Division, Bank of Punjab said that the program is designed to equip green, yellow cab with the right to succeed as entrepreneurs and the arrangement with Uber will enable them to earn better income for their families.

He said that the BOP has provided employment opportunities to thousands of unemployed youth through the Chief Minister Punjab ‘Apna Rozgar’ (Green Cab) and Yellow Cab Schemes.

There are currently tens of thousands of drivers in Lahore using Uber which has become the first choice for drivers and riders in Pakistan in less than a year.

Over 70 percent of current drivers are individuals managing their own business and setting their own schedules.
