The price of fine flour also jumped. Now, an 80kg sack costs up to Rs10,500, up from Rs7,000. The price of red flour sacks rose from Rs6,000 to Rs9,500.

The disparity between official prices and market rates is concerning for consumers who are already facing inflation. To prevent flour shortages, the Punjab government has prohibited the use of wheat in feed mills throughout the province.
The ban started immediately on Friday and will last 30 days until October 3. Section 144 has been enforced throughout Punjab to stop wheat diversion to feed mills.
The Punjab Home Department spokesperson stated, “Wheat will now only be used in flour mills for flour production.” Currently, feed mills have a stock of 104,184 metric tons of wheat. These mills had intended to use part of this wheat as poultry feed.
