Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China has issued a permanent ban on twelve tourists following incidents of misconduct.
The tourists, aged between 26 and 61, were banned from entering the pandas’ enclosure because they spat and threw various objects, including bread, eggs, lollipop sticks, cigarettes, and bamboo shoots.
This decision was disclosed through an official statement on the base’s WeChat account, which noted that these incidents occurred over two separate visits between April and June. Despite the tourists’ actions, the pandas’ health and well-being remain unaffected, with reports confirming their continued good health and happiness.
The research base, a major attraction in Chengdu established in 1987, enforces strict visitor guidelines to protect animals and visitors. The guidelines emphasize respectful and safe behaviour, prohibiting littering, spitting, and unauthorized feeding. Depending on the severity of the offence, the penalties for violations range from temporary bans to lifetime exclusion.
