A Qatar Airways Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner experienced severe turbulence over Turkey, resulting in injuries to twelve individuals onboard.
The aircraft was en route from Doha to Dublin when the incident occurred, leading to an emergency response upon landing in Ireland at approximately 13:00 local time.
Dublin Airport officials reported that the turbulence necessitated immediate actions at the airport, with affected passengers and crew receiving prompt assistance. Authorities noted that the injuries involved six passengers and six crew members.
The National Ambulance Service had been pre-alerted about the potential emergency and was present at the scene to support the disembarkation and medical treatment of those injured. The incident did not disrupt airport operations.
In response to the event, Qatar Airways stated that all injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention and that the airline has launched an internal investigation to examine the circumstances of the turbulence.
This incident closely follows another recent turbulence-related accident in Singapore, which tragically resulted in a fatality.
According to CNN, experts warn that such turbulence events will likely become more frequent and severe due to climate change, citing studies that predict an increase in such disturbances globally.
