The Tehran office of Turkish Airlines was closed due to non-compliance with Iran’s mandatory hijab laws.
The action followed an incident where Turkish Airlines female staff members refused to adhere to the requirement, leading to police intervention and subsequent warnings. Despite these warnings, continued resistance from the staff prompted authorities to seal the office, as reported by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency.
Iran has enforced the hijab for women since the 1979 revolution. A notable incident in September 2022, involving the death of a 22-year-old woman detained for violating this law, sparked widespread protests across the country. These protests, although brief, highlighted ongoing resistance against the mandatory hijab.
Historically, Iranian authorities have frequently sealed establishments such as shops, restaurants, and pharmacies for failing to uphold the hijab law.
