A senior leader of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Qari Amjad, has been killed in an intelligence-based operation conducted by security forces in the Bajaur district. The militant, who served as the group’s self-styled defence minister, was a high-value target with a Rs 5 million bounty.
The operation took place on the night of October 29-30. Security forces detected and thwarted an infiltration attempt by a group of militants in the district. Four terrorists, including the prominent TTP leader, were neutralised during the exchange of fire.
Qari Amjad, also known as Mufti Muzahim, served as a deputy to TTP leader Noor Wali and headed the group’s Rehbari Shura. He was a central figure in orchestrating terrorist activities inside Pakistan. He operated from bases within Afghanistan.
Security sources confirmed that he was actively involved in planning and directing operations aimed at destabilising the region.

The successful operation underscores ongoing security challenges along the border. Pakistani authorities have reiterated their call for the Interim Afghan Government to prevent its territory from being used as a launching pad for terrorist activities against Pakistan.
The leadership of the banned TTP continues to use Afghan soil to orchestrate attacks and bolster militant morale in the border regions of Bajaur and Mohmand.

Security forces have launched a subsequent sanitisation operation in the area to eliminate any remaining threats. This action is part of the broader, sustained counter-terrorism campaign, Azm-e-Istehkam. The campaign operates under the framework of the National Action Plan.
The elimination of such a high-profile target represents a significant blow to the terrorist network. It demonstrates the continued resolve of Pakistani security forces in defending the nation’s borders.
