US President Donald Trump will meet Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the White House on Thursday, September 25, 2025. A Trump administration official confirmed this to Reuters.
The bilateral talks follow a recent US-Pakistan trade agreement and aim to strengthen ties amid shifting regional dynamics. Since January 2025, US-Pakistan relations have improved. The US now views Pakistan as a partner against China’s growing influence in Asia. This marks a shift from a previous focus on India.
Tensions between Washington and New Delhi over visas, tariffs, and ceasefire claims have led to regional recalibrations. New Delhi has also sought closer ties with China in response.
The meeting will cover global and regional topics, including counter-terrorism, trade, and economic cooperation. Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is expected to join the talks. Munir recently met Trump for lunch at the White House, marking the first solo visit by a Pakistani army chief.

Prime Minister Sharif attended Trump’s meeting on Tuesday with Muslim-majority leaders to discuss de-escalation in Gaza. Trump also hosted Sharif and Deputy PM Ishaq Dar in New York during the UN General Assembly.
The recent trade deal, signed on July 31, includes a 19% US tariff on Pakistani goods. Trump has no similar deal with India.
A State Department official said, “We are working on counter-terrorism, economic, and trade ties.” The official noted US interests guide the engagement, including good relations with Pakistan’s leaders.
Pakistan nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in India-Pakistan de-escalation talks. Pakistan condemns Israel’s actions in Gaza and seeks a balanced US approach.
The White House meeting signals renewed US engagement with Pakistan. It will address security and trade topics amid shifting alliances. With India watching closely, it may shape the regional balance in South Asia.
