Donald Trump has once again praised Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Syed Asim Munir, reiterating his claim that he helped prevent a full-scale conflict between India and Pakistan during tensions in May.
Speaking at an event in Florida, Trump made the remarks alongside US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of the Navy John Phelan. He described Asim Munir as a “highly respected general” and noted his rank as field marshal.
Trump said Pakistan’s prime minister credited him with helping avert war, claiming the intervention saved millions of lives. He further asserted that eight aircraft were destroyed during the brief Pakistan-India confrontation, though he did not provide details or independent verification for the claim.

The US president has repeatedly spoken positively about Pakistan’s civil and military leadership since the May clashes with India. In October 2025, Trump publicly described Field Marshal Munir as a “good man” and referred to Shehbaz Sharif as a “great leader.”
Trump made those comments while addressing the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur. During the same speech, he said he had received reports of potential tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan but credited Pakistan’s leadership with resolving the matter quickly and peacefully.
‘I Like Stopping Wars,’ Says Trump
Reiterating his broader foreign policy approach, Trump said he considers himself a strong proponent of global peace. He claimed he has helped halt eight wars so far, often by leveraging economic pressure and trade incentives.
“I stopped wars through trade,” Trump said, adding that the United States prefers economic cooperation over military confrontation. He stressed that trade relationships can play a critical role in reducing conflict and maintaining stability.
“I like stopping wars,” Trump remarked, underlining his view that long-term peace depends on diplomacy and economic engagement rather than armed conflict.
