Donald Trump shared a fabricated endorsement from Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan, on his Truth Social platform.
On Friday, Trump posted an image of Dimon accompanied by the caption: “New: Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase, has endorsed Trump for President.”
This post, which appeared around 1800 GMT, seems to be a reshare of another item on social media. However, a spokesperson for JPMorgan clarified that Dimon has not endorsed any candidate in the U.S. presidential race. “That report was false,” JPMorgan spokesman Joe Evangelisti stated in an email to AFP. “Jamie has not endorsed a candidate.”
This incident follows Trump’s August post of manipulated images suggesting that pop star Taylor Swift supported his presidential bid. Contrarily, Swift openly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris last month. Reflecting on the manipulated images, Swift expressed concerns about AI and misinformation in a September 11 Instagram post. “The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth,” she advised.
As of 1700 GMT, the erroneous endorsement from Dimon remained on Trump’s Truth Social page.
