US President Donald Trump sharply criticised India’s relations with Russia on Thursday, calling both countries “dead economies” and accusing India of maintaining unfair trade practices. His remarks came a day after he imposed a 25% tariff and an additional penalty on imports from India.
Trump posted on Truth Social, “I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care.” He added that the US has conducted minimal business with India, attributing this to India’s tariffs, which he described as “among the highest in the world.” Trump further noted that the United States and Russia also conduct limited business and said, “Let’s keep it that way.”
He also issued a cautionary warning to Russia’s Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, urging him to “watch his words” and stating that Medvedev is “entering very dangerous territory.”
The tariff announcement followed Trump’s criticism of India’s continued purchase of Russian military equipment and energy. He called these actions “not good,” especially as the global community seeks Russia to “stop the killing in Ukraine.”

Trump’s moves and comments reflect ongoing tensions centred on tariffs, trade barriers, and geopolitical alignments, highlighting the complex dynamics in US-India-Russia relations.
