In South Carolina’s GOP contest, Donald Trump won over Nikki Haley, continuing his streak towards a potential third nomination and Biden rematch.
Despite facing criminal charges, Trump, the favourite, won significantly, challenging Haley to withdraw. Yet, despite surpassing poll expectations, Haley pledges to continue fighting until “Super Tuesday.” With 83% of votes counted, Trump leads by 20.6 points despite a predicted larger margin.
Haley, achieving 40% of votes, sees significant support for an alternative. Trump’s victories across five states, including Haley’s South Carolina, solidify his lead. Post-victory, Trump, not mentioning Haley, celebrated GOP unity in Columbia.
Haley intensified critiques against Trump, doubting his election viability. However, GOP voters predominantly support Trump. Immigration emerged as the primary issue in the GOP primary, with the economy also a significant concern, indicating potential challenges for Biden. Despite Trump’s support, concerns about his fitness if convicted persist.
Trump’s legal battles, including a New York trial for falsifying records related to Stormy Daniels and other charges, continue, with Trump denying all allegations.
