Former President Donald Trump’s official store launched a “Trump 2028” merchandise line in April 2025, reigniting debate over the possibility of a third presidential term, which the US Constitution’s 22nd Amendment explicitly prohibits.
The products, including $50 red caps, $36 T-shirts, and beer can coolers branded with “Trump 2028” and “Rewrite the Rules,” have sparked speculation about Trump’s intentions.
The 22nd Amendment limits individuals to two elected presidential terms. Trump, who served from 2017 to 2021 and was re-elected in 2024, would face significant hurdles to pursue a third term. Amending the Constitution requires two-thirds approval from the House and Senate, plus ratification by 38 state legislatures, an unlikely feat, according to political analysts. Despite this, Trump told NBC in March 2025 that “there are methods” for a third term, without elaborating.

Trump has sent conflicting messages about his ambitions. In a 2024 Time magazine interview, he dismissed interest in a third term, but recent speeches suggest he’s open to the idea, citing its popularity among supporters. His son, Eric Trump, fueled speculation by sharing photos wearing the “Trump 2028” gear. Prominent MAGA figures like Steve Bannon have also referenced Franklin D. Roosevelt’s four-term presidency, which predated the 22nd Amendment, to rally support.
Trump 2028 Merchandise as Political Strategy
The “Trump 2028” line aligns with Trump’s history of blending politics and commerce. His store sells diverse products, from jewellery to the “God Bless the USA Bible” and a cryptocurrency, $TRUMP, tied to fundraising. The merchandise keeps Trump’s brand prominent and resonates with his base, whether symbolic or serious, even as constitutional limits remain firm.

The merchandise rollout has intensified discussions about Trump’s political future and the boundaries of constitutional law. While a third term remains improbable, the messaging underscores Trump’s enduring influence.
