Netflix has released the official trailer and confirmed the release date for its new psychological thriller series, ‘Ripley.’
Leading the cast is Andrew Scott, recognized for his role in ‘The Fleabag.’ Scott takes on the role of Tom Ripley, the main character from Patricia Highsmith’s renowned novels. Following previous adaptations, the series aims to bring these novels to life, notably the film ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jude Law.
‘Ripley’ narrates the tale of Tom Ripley, hired by a wealthy benefactor to persuade his son, Dickie Greenleaf, to return from Italy. Ripley, however, becomes entwined in Greenleaf’s lavish lifestyle, leading to dramatic twists.
Behind the Scenes with Andrew Scott
Andrew Scott, who also serves as the executive producer, shared insights into his experience. “Playing Tom Ripley was mentally and physically challenging,” he stated in an interview with Vanity Fair. Scott emphasized the need to set aside preconceived notions about the character, focusing on creating a unique interpretation.
The series features Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf and Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood, Greenleaf’s girlfriend. The eight-episode series is scheduled for release on February 4, 2024. Written, directed, and executive-produced by Academy Award winner Steve Zaillian, the show promises a fresh and authentic adaptation of Highsmith’s work.
In his discussion with Vanity Fair, Zaillian expressed his commitment to staying true to the essence of Highsmith’s novels. He also mentioned filming in black and white to mirror the novel’s atmosphere, as reported by People magazine. This creative choice adds a classic touch to the series, enhancing its storytelling depth.
