A Russian-registered charter plane with six people on board vanished over Afghanistan. Russian aviation authorities reported this after Afghan police noted potential crash indications. The 1978 Dassault Aviation Falcon 10 jet was on an ambulance mission from Thailand to Moscow, passing through India and Uzbekistan.
Crisis During Flight and Subsequent Actions
Before disappearing, the pilot reported a critical fuel shortage, aiming to land in Tajikistan. Soon after, both engines reportedly failed. Reuters has not confirmed these details. India’s civil aviation authority is awaiting further information, stating the plane wasn’t on a regular or Indian chartered flight.
The flight was executing a private medical evacuation from Pattaya, Thailand, to Moscow. Aboard was a seriously ill Russian patient, and her entrepreneur husband was a resident of Volgodonsk in Russia. Russian media highlighted the couple’s origins.
Russian authorities are investigating possible safety violations. The plane, owned by Russian firm Athletic Group LLC, has not been commented on. The Taliban-run Afghan aviation ministry suggested the plane might have deviated from its planned route due to technical issues. Their team is examining the situation.
Afghan police reported a plane crash in Badakhshan’s remote mountains. As per Zabihullah Amiri of Badakhshan’s provincial government, a team has been deployed to the challenging crash site, located over 200 km from Fayzabad. The journey to the site is expected to take around 12 hours.
