A devastating explosion in Balochistan’s Mastung district resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including five children and a police officer, on Friday morning, as confirmed by the Kalat Division Commissioner Naeem Bazai. Additionally, 17 people suffered injuries in the incident.
Commissioner Bazai reported that the blast occurred around 8:35 am near the Mastung Civil Hospital, likely caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) attached to a motorcycle and detonated near a police vehicle.
The wounded receive care at Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital and Mastung District Headquarters Hospital, with 11 subsequently transferred to the Quetta Trauma Centre (QTC). Among those who moved to Quetta were a five-year-old girl and a teenage boy, with five reported in serious condition, according to QTC Managing Director Arbab Kamran.
Local authorities, including the deputy and assistant commissioners, manage the hospital crisis. Commissioner Bazai noted that police have secured the area to prevent further incidents.
Mastung District Police Officer (DPO) Miandad Umrani added that four police officers were among the injured and that the young victims were between the ages of five and 10. He also mentioned that the blast damaged a police van and several auto-rickshaws.
Images from the scene displayed a charred police van with police officers, and bystanders gathered nearby, highlighting the severity of the explosion.
