Tom Hiddleston has offered a rare glimpse into the scale and ambition of the upcoming Marvel blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday. He describes the film as unlike anything audiences have seen before.
The 44-year-old actor is currently preparing to return as Jonathan Pine in the second season of The Night Manager. It has been nearly a decade since the critically acclaimed first installment. While promoting the long-awaited new season, Hiddleston also addressed his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Loki.
Speaking to GQ, Hiddleston said his work on Avengers: Doomsday was complete and hinted at the film’s massive scope. “My contribution has been contributed,” he said. “Avengers: Doomsday is monumental.”
He added that the story left a lasting impression on him. “The centre of the story is absolutely brilliant and completely surprising when I read it. It’s something that has never been done before.”

A bigger role for Loki?
Hiddleston’s remarks have fuelled speculation that Loki could play a central role in the film’s narrative. His most recent appearance came in Disney+’s Loki, which concluded with the character undergoing a profound transformation.
Once driven by ambition and chaos, Loki evolved into a selfless guardian of the multiverse. By the series finale, he had embraced a new identity as the “God of Stories.” This role entails holding together branching timelines and safeguarding the flow of time itself.

With Doctor Doom reportedly emerging as the primary threat in Avengers: Doomsday—a role set to be portrayed by Robert Downey Jr.—Loki’s position as protector of the timelines places him at the heart of the conflict. The looming multiversal threat suggests Loki may be forced to defend reality itself from collapse.
While Marvel Studios has kept plot details tightly under wraps, Hiddleston’s comments strongly indicate that Avengers: Doomsday will push the franchise into uncharted territory. Loki could potentially stand at the centre of its most ambitious story yet.
