Hollywood star Tom Cruise is set to reprise his role as Navy pilot Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, with Paramount officially greenlighting the third instalment of “Top Gun: Maverick.”
Cruise first brought the character to life in the 1986 classic “Top Gun” and triumphantly returned in the 2022 sequel, which achieved massive global success, grossing $1.496 billion.
Sequel Developments and Collaborations
Paramount has entrusted “Top Gun: Maverick” co-writer Ehren Kruger to pen the script for the upcoming sequel. There’s also hope that director Joseph Kosinski will return to helm the project. The sequel may feature Cruise alongside younger co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell and more thrilling, high-flying action.
Recently, Warner Bros. Discovery announced Tom Cruise’s non-exclusive deal to develop franchises and original movies. This agreement, which does not restrict Cruise’s collaborations with other studios, will also facilitate a unique film project to be shot at the International Space Station.
“Top Gun: Maverick” dominated the box office in 2022 and garnered significant acclaim, including an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
