The Tokyo World Championships 2025 kick off on September 13 in Tokyo, with Noah Lyles and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone leading the US team. Stars like Faith Kipyegon, Karsten Warholm, and Armand Duplantis will compete over nine days. The event, following 15 Diamond League meets and Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track series, promises thrilling races.

Noah Lyles, Olympic 100m champion, enters after a strong Diamond League win in Zurich. He aims to dominate the 100m and 200m, saying, “I’m bringing a lot of energy to Tokyo.” Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the 400m hurdles world record holder, will race the 400m flat. During the Tokyo World Championships 2025, the US, with 15 medal table wins in 19 championships, expects a strong showing.

Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson, who ran 9.75sec in the 100m, challenges Lyles. Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo and Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred, both Olympic champions, aim for more golds. Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon targets a fourth 1,500m title, while Emmanuel Wanyonyi leads a fierce 800m field. Norway’s Karsten Warholm faces Rai Benjamin in the 400m hurdles. Armand Duplantis, the pole vault star, may break his own world record again in the Tokyo World Championships 2025.

The championships feature 20 teams at Tokyo’s National Stadium for the Tokyo World Championships 2025. The 400m hurdles, led by Femke Bol, and the men’s 800m, with 12 runners under 1:43, are must-watch events. All female athletes underwent mandatory gene testing, a new rule for 2025. The Grand Slam Track series struggled, with its final meet cancelled due to financial issues.

The 2025 Championships close a thrilling season, showcasing track and field’s best. With stars like Lyles and Kipyegon, and rivalries like Warholm vs. Benjamin, Tokyo will deliver historic moments. The event also highlights diversity, despite absences like Gabby Thomas and Joshua Cheptegei due to injury or personal reasons.
