Meta’s recent launch, Threads, has reportedly slowed Twitter’s engagement rate, despite a minor downturn in its growth. Threads made a spectacular debut with 100 million sign-ups within just five days. However, the new platform has been experiencing slow progression since then.
In an interview with CNBC, a Managing Director from Sensor Tower shared that Threads’ launch created a unique stir in the online world. He said, “The Threads launch did ‘break the internet,’ or at least the Sensor Tower models. The first 72 hours of Threads were truly in a class alone.”
Sensor Tower’s data suggests a 20% drop in the platform’s daily active users since Saturday, with the users’ active time reduced by half. Meanwhile, Similarweb has noted a potential shift in engagement from Twitter to Threads.
According to a Similarweb representative, Twitter’s web traffic experienced a 5% decrease during the peak Threads activity last Thursday and Friday, compared to the same days in the previous week. Although these are preliminary indicators, they suggest that Threads may substantially draw usage from Twitter, especially as Threads’ team begins to introduce features like hashtags and topical search.
