In a remote corner of Birdsville, Queensland, thousands converged to pay homage to the late music icon Tina Turner at Australia’s Big Red Bash music festival. Dancing to Turner’s hit “Nutbush City Limits,” approximately 6,000 people came together, establishing a new world record for the world’s largest Nutbush dance, according to the Australian Book of Records.
The dance to the Nutbush song is considered Australia’s unofficial national dance, regularly seen at school events, weddings, and large gatherings.
Participants raised nearly $90,000 for the Royal Flying Doctors whilst performing. Aerial footage captured by a drone revealed the festival-goers dancing in a range of outfits, their movements in perfect sync with the rhythm beneath the vast Big Red dune on the fringe of the Simpson desert.
Tina Turner, the beloved singer whose legacy inspired this monumental dance, passed away at 83 in May of this year.
