At the 76th Primetime Emmys, “The Bear” delivered an encore of its previous success, clinching top awards in several comedy categories, including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.
Jeremy Allen White secured the Best Actor in a Comedy award for the second consecutive year, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach also repeated his win as Best Supporting Actor. Liza Colon-Zayas provided the evening’s biggest surprise by winning Best Supporting Actress, edging out strong competitors.
Liza Colon-Zayas visibly moved and made history as the first Latina to win in this category. In her acceptance speech, she expressed her astonishment and gratitude: “How could I have imagined sharing this moment with icons like Meryl Streep and Carol Burnett? To all the Latinas watching, keep believing and vote,” she urged.
“The Bear” aims to replicate its performance from the January strike-delayed Emmys, where it won six awards. Its awards this time were for the show’s second season on FX, which featured Jeremy Allen White’s character, Chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, striving to transform his family’s struggling Chicago sandwich shop into a gourmet restaurant. Meanwhile, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s character, Richard “Cousin Richie” Jerimovich, evolved from a brash troublemaker to a polished maître d’.
The ceremony’s hosts, father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, humorously noted the dramatic undertones of “The Bear,” often categorized as a comedy. “In honour of ‘The Bear,’ we will make no jokes,” Eugene Levy joked during their monologue.
Additionally, Jean Smart captured the Best Actress in a Comedy award for her role in “Hacks,” maintaining her winning streak with victories for all three seasons of the series and increasing her total Emmy tally to six. She triumphed over competitors, including Ayo Edebiri, who, after securing the Best Supporting Actress award in January for “The Bear,” received a nomination this time in the lead actress category.
