Over 100 people have been reported to have died because of hunger and malnutrition in Mithi, one of the least developed and most remote districts in southern Sindh province. However, as par govt. sources the official death toll is 41.
The Chief Minister visited Mithi on Friday and has shown great concern about this grave situation and also ordered the arrest of senior health officials for neglecting their duties, as they had failed to move the children to hospitals in the bigger cities. He has also advised authorities to probe into the death of 41 children who reportedly died of pneumonia and malnutrition in a stretch of the Thar desert.
