Security forces eliminated three terrorists, including a key commander, during an operation in the Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s official communication channel reported on Tuesday.
The operation, based on intelligence reports about terrorist activities, took place on the night of September 25/26 in Tirah, Khyber district. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted a fierce firefight between the troops and the terrorists, resulting in three deaths, including commander Kifayat, aka Tor Adnan. He had been implicated in numerous attacks on law enforcement and civilians. The ISPR also mentioned ongoing efforts to secure the area and pledged the security forces’ commitment to eradicating terrorism.
Recent events signal increased counter-terrorism actions across Pakistan. Last Saturday, a soldier was killed during a skirmish in North Waziristan. The preceding Thursday saw security forces neutralizing eight terrorists in separate operations in the Bannu district and North Waziristan.
Notably, Pakistan has seen a resurgence in terrorist activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the termination of the TTP’s ceasefire agreement with the government last November. A study published in July noted a concerning surge in terrorism incidents during the year’s first half, with 389 casualties reported nationwide.
