On Sunday, the serene atmosphere of the Turkish capital, Ankara, was shattered when two terrorists executed a bomb attack outside the ministry buildings. As per Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya’s account, one terrorist detonated himself, while the other was efficiently “neutralised” by the authorities. This unfortunate incident led to minor injuries of two police officers.
The explosion’s aftermath, which resonated throughout Kizilay – Ankara’s central area, was chaotic. Soon after, there were reports of gunfire. Swiftly responding to the situation, security forces erected barriers, and bomb squads inspected nearby vehicles, especially since the location was near essential government infrastructures like the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
In response to this act of terror, an investigation was promptly initiated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. As a precautionary measure, heightened security protocols were implemented around the affected region. This also led to the temporary closure of the primary Ataturk Boulevard, particularly near one of the gates of the Grand National Assembly.
Pakistan’s Solidarity with Turkey
Amidst this crisis, international support and solidarity were palpable. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs was among the first to vehemently condemn this act of terror. Their official statement emphasized their unwavering stand with Turkey against such acts of terror.
Further showcasing solidarity, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar praised Turkey’s resilience and expressed confidence in Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan’s leadership. He opined that Turkey would only emerge stronger from this ordeal.
Strong Condemnation from Pakistan’s Leaders
Several of Pakistan’s notable figures, including former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples Party leaders Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, unequivocally denounced the terror attack. Their messages underscored the need for global unity against terrorism and a shared commitment to eradicate this menace.
