In a recent environmental report, global music icon Taylor Swift has been identified as the biggest celebrity carbon dioxide (CO2) polluter for 2023. This marks her second consecutive year leading the chart, largely due to her extensive travel activities.
Swift’s extensive travel, mainly to spend time with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, has resulted in 138 tons of CO2 emissions in just three months. The environmental impact of her journeys is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 17 houses or the electricity use of 26.9 homes.
Owning two Dassault Falcon jets, Swift has faced criticism for her substantial carbon footprint. To counterbalance the environmental impact of her flights, it would require planting 2,282 trees and allowing them to grow for ten years.
Swift’s Response and Relationship with Travis Kelce
In response to these environmental concerns, Swift’s spokesperson stated that she had purchased more than double the necessary carbon credits to offset all her tour travel before the Eras Tour began in March 2023. These credits also cover additional flights for supporting Kelce’s games and her tour. Meanwhile, Swift’s relationship with Kelce continues to blossom, with the couple frequently travelling together for his games and her concerts.
Swift’s temporary move to Kelce’s Kansas City mansion has sparked rumours of a more serious commitment between the two. As Swift’s Eras Tour takes a brief hiatus, the couple enjoys their downtime together, deepening their bond. Swift is set to resume her tour in Japan on February 7 and plans to extend it to Europe, Asia, and Australia in 2024. Despite her efforts to offset her carbon emissions, the environmental impact of her frequent flying remains a contentious issue.
