Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, known for her contentious rhetoric, recently made headlines by initiating impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden. She accuses him of poor management of the southern border crisis.
In a Capitol Hill press conference, Taylor Greene announced her plan to impeach Biden, voicing her conviction that his administration has consistently undermined the nation since its commencement in January 2021.
The congresswoman suggests that the articles of impeachment she introduced are merely a starting point and anticipates further accusations from House Republicans against the President. While she refrained from detailing these potential charges, she did express a litany of complaints against Biden, including alleged negligence in enforcing immigration laws and fortifying the border. She insinuated that Biden’s oversight allowed millions of illegal immigrants from over 170 countries to infiltrate the United States, jeopardizing national safety.
Taylor Greene also faulted Biden for purportedly permitting the opioid fentanyl to permeate the nation, leading to hundreds of daily fatalities. However, authorities such as Secretary of State Antony Blinken have attributed the fentanyl surge to the substance’s production in Mexico, which uses Chinese ingredients.
Taylor Greene’s move to impeach Biden transpired a week after the cessation of Title 42, a policy during the COVID-19 pandemic that facilitated the immediate deportation of asylum-seeking immigrants at the border. Consequently, many migrants are being released with court hearings scheduled years ahead.
This action from Taylor Greene concludes what she dubs her “impeachment week.” Before Biden, with impeachment articles, she targeted FBI Director Christopher Wray, US Attorney Matthew Graves, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and Attorney General Merrick Garland. She reprimanded Mayorkas for his border control strategies and accused Garland of politicizing the Department of Justice and utilizing the FBI against opposition to the current administration.
Regardless of her efforts, it seems unlikely that Taylor Greene’s impeachment articles will pass in the House of Representatives. Given the stark partisan division and the narrow Republican majority, the articles lack the necessary support, especially from Democrats. Thus, it appears unlikely that Biden’s impeachment will come to fruition.
