A private plaza on Tariq Road has been sealed by authorities as they step up a fire safety compliance drive against buildings that fail to meet mandatory safety standards. Officials said the action was reported during a review meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi.
The meeting focused on ongoing safety audits of government and private buildings across the city. Deputy commissioners from different districts briefed the commissioner on the status of inspections and compliance efforts.
According to the briefing, safety audits have been completed for 775 buildings. Officials also said safety measures are currently being implemented in 197 buildings, while 285 buildings have already achieved significant compliance with required protocols.
The figures show that inspections are moving forward on a large scale as the city increases pressure on both public and private property owners.
During the meeting, the commissioner directed all commercial buildings to ensure strict compliance with fire safety regulations. He said immediate-priority safety measures must be taken without delay.
The meeting also reached a clear decision to seal any building that fails to adopt fire safety standards. That instruction was reinforced with strict orders for prompt action against non-compliant premises.
Authorities said all buildings in Karachi must install fire alarms and fire extinguishers. In addition, every building must have emergency exit indicators and smoke detectors. The latest directives signal a tougher enforcement phase as city officials push for broader compliance following the audit.
