The Tareen Oxford Scholarship, announced by the Oxford Pakistan Programme (OPP), aims to provide financial support to talented Pakistani students, particularly those from South Punjab, an underdeveloped region in Pakistan.
The scholarship is a means-tested funding initiative that seeks to create a more diverse and inclusive academic community at Oxford.
The OPP stated that eligible applicants for this scholarship must have an admission offer for one of the graduate courses offered at the University of Oxford’s Kellogg College. However, they must also demonstrate that they lack the financial means to accept the offer. Preference will be given to students for whom this scholarship would be a life-changing opportunity and who have the potential and commitment to contribute to the development of South Punjab.
Made possible with Ali Tareen, an alumnus of Kellogg College, the scholarship will be established as a five-year program. Funds will be donated annually and disbursed on a rolling basis. The scholarship will contribute towards tuition fees and living costs for the selected students as part of OPP’s graduate scholarship program. This program awards at least three graduate scholarships yearly to deserving Pakistani and British Pakistani students.
The Tareen Oxford Scholarship is expected to significantly impact uplifting talented young scholars from South Punjab, one of the most underprivileged regions in Pakistan. By providing these students with the opportunity to study at Oxford, the scholarship aims to raise the aspirations of other talented individuals in their communities, creating a positive spillover effect. Furthermore, the scholarship is an important step towards fostering a more diverse and inclusive academic environment at the University of Oxford.
