On the sixth day of the World Culture Festival 2024, the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, erupted in laughter with “Taleem-e-Balighan 2.0.” On Tuesday, this modern rendition of Khawaja Moinuddin’s iconic 1956 satire captivated the audience with its witty approach.
This contemporary version of the classic, which critiques societal norms through adult education, has been updated to resonate with today’s audiences while highlighting enduring societal issues.
The 60-minute performance combined humour and reflective commentary, offering a timeless critique of social and educational systems. The play’s sharp wit and comic vitality entertained the audience while maintaining fidelity to the original’s spirit.
Khawaja Moinuddin, born on March 23, 1924, in Topran, pre-partition India, was a celebrated playwright whose works remain widely appreciated and frequently performed. His passion for drama emerged early, and during his student years, he wrote and produced numerous plays.
The festival, featuring over 450 artists from 40 countries, will run until November 2 at the ACP Karachi. ACP Karachi President Mohammad Ahmad Shah extended it three days beyond its original end date of October 30.
