Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will visit Pakistan on December 14 at the request of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The Foreign Office stated that during Rahmon’s visit, the two sides will discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields and sign various agreements, the statement stated.
Last week, the cabinet adopted a transit trade deal on the commerce ministry’s advice.
The FO, in a statement, said the Tajik president’s visit to Pakistan was expected to “impart a renewed impetus to deepening cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields and further strengthen the growing geo-economic partnership.”
“Pakistan and Tajikistan are brotherly countries linked through longstanding historical, cultural and religious bonds. These ties are marked by mutual respect and exceptional friendship.
“The two countries have [a] common views on various regional and international issues,” the statement added.
Tajikistan is Pakistan’s closest neighbor in central Asia, separated only by the narrow Wakhan corridor, and Pakistan considers Tajikistan an important partner of Pakistan in Central Asia.
