The PPP has yet to officially choose its next Sindh chief minister, with Syed Murad Ali Shah as the frontrunner. Previously, speculation suggested that Faryal Talpur, Sharjeel Inam Memon, and Syed Nasir Hussain Shah were key contenders. However, sources now indicate that Faryal Talpur shows no interest in the role.
Insiders reveal the PPP has settled on a candidate, expected to be announced shortly, with the leadership reportedly pleased with Murad’s prior tenure.
Given its majority in the provincial assembly, the PPP is poised to secure the position effortlessly without needing alliances.
Murad Ali Shah succeeded Syed Qaim Ali Shah in July 2016, marking a period of notable activity as Sindh’s chief minister, from his initial appointment to re-election in 2018 until the recent interim government’s instalment for the latest elections. Murad triumphed in PS-77 Jamshoro-I in these elections over Roshan Ali of the Grand Democratic Alliance.
This isn’t the first instance where the other candidates have been the subject of speculation.
In the recent elections, Faryal won in PS-10 Larkana-I, Memon in PS-61 Hyderabad-II, and Nasir in PS-25 Sukkur-IV, defeating their rivals.
In the upcoming Sindh Assembly session, awaiting the final candidate notifications, we will see Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani swearing in new members. Durrani has confirmed preparations for the session are complete.
