Sydney Sweeney rarely struggles to capture attention, but her latest social media post did exactly that as The Housemaid arrived in theatres.
The actress shared a series of behind-the-scenes images from the psychological thriller, giving fans a candid glimpse into life on set. The contrast stood out. The film explores dark and unsettling themes, yet Sweeney appeared relaxed and self-assured between takes.
Posted on her Instagram, the photos show Sweeney during a filming break in a satin bustier and jeans splattered with fake blood. In one frame, she smiles while eating a sandwich with chips and pickles. In another, she sticks out her tongue beneath a clearly marked “Hot Set” sign, signalling that filming was in progress. The images spread quickly online, drawing attention for both their shock value and their casual tone.
According to director Paul Feig, that ease reflects how Sweeney approaches her work.
“She’s very proud of how she looks, and she should be,” Feig said in an interview with The Times. “She’s confident, and that confidence is healthy. It makes a huge difference on set.”
Confidence on Set, Control Off Camera
Feig, best known for Bridesmaids, directed The Housemaid, which also stars Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. The film adapts Frieda McFadden’s 2022 bestselling novel and follows Millie Calloway, a live-in housemaid whose seemingly perfect job with a wealthy couple turns disturbing.
The role required Sweeney to film intimate scenes, an aspect Feig addressed openly. He praised modern industry safeguards and credited intimacy coordinators for improving professionalism and comfort on set. He emphasised that these standards protect actors and foster a healthier work environment.
To mark the release, Sweeney posted a 20-slide Instagram carousel. The collection balanced the film’s darker moments with lighter, personal scenes. She included photos hugging Seyfried and her young co-star ,Indiana Elle, along with a handwritten note from McFadden that read, “You are a perfect Millie!”

At the Los Angeles premiere, Sweeney described the film as an emotional ride designed to spark strong reactions. “It’s fun, it’s juicy, it’s delicious,” she said. “You’ll laugh, cringe, and maybe yell at the screen. It’s a full emotional cleanse.”
Early reviews suggest the film is resonating. The Housemaid opened with a strong score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising its throwback thriller style and highlighting Seyfried’s unsettling performance.

For Sweeney, the moment signals more than a film release. It reflects her growing control over her image and career. She continues to choose roles that spark conversation as the industry still learns to balance agency, power, and representation. The blood on her costume may be staged, but the impact of her presence is unmistakably real.
