The Sydney Sixers have signed a blockbuster, securing Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam for the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025 season, as confirmed on June 13, 2025. This landmark acquisition, one of the most significant in BBL history, positions the Sixers as strong contenders for the title.

Babar Azam, a global cricket icon, joins the Sixers ahead of the BBL 15 Draft on June 19, leveraging the league’s rule allowing one pre-draft international signing. According to BBL’s official site, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC), enabling Babar’s participation for the entire season (including finals).

“I’m super pumped to join the Sixers,” Babar said, enthusiastic about his BBL debut. His addition strengthens a squad that includes Sean Abbott, Steve Smith, and Moises Henriques.

Babar, a former Pakistan captain (2019–2024), is renowned for his technical brilliance and consistency. With over 11,000 T20 runs, he ranks among the world’s top batters in ODIs and T20Is. His accolades include ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year (2021, 2022) and ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year (2022). Babar holds the record for the fastest 5,000 ODI runs, achieved in 97 innings.

He led Pakistan to the 2021 T20 World Cup semi-finals and the 2022 final, showcasing his leadership under pressure. His experience in leagues like the Pakistan Super League and Caribbean Premier League further enhances his value.

Babar’s signing is a major coup for the Sixers, who aim to reclaim the BBL title. His ability to anchor innings and accelerate when needed complements the team’s dynamic lineup. Available for the full season, Babar could be pivotal in high-stakes matches, boosting the Sixers’ prospects in the finals.

Social media fans are excitedly buzzing, with many calling Babar’s signing a “game-changer” for BBL 15, which will begin in December 2025.

  • Babar Azam
  • Joel Davies
  • Ben Dwarshuis
  • Jack Edwards
  • Moises Henriques

  • Mitch Perry

Babar Azam’s arrival elevates the BBL’s global appeal, drawing attention to the league’s competitive quality. For fans, it’s a chance to see one of cricket’s biggest stars in action. For the Sixers, it’s a strategic move to dominate BBL 15.
