The Swedish government has rejected a request to extradite Khurram Nisar, a suspect accused of murder in Pakistan, back to his home country for trial.
On November 21, 2022, Nisar allegedly murdered Abdul Rahman, a member of Pakistan’s Shaheen Force, following a heated argument and subsequently fled to Sweden.
Despite being apprehended by Swedish authorities, the extradition request, initiated by Karachi police and routed through Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), was denied. Sweden’s refusal is based on the lack of an extradition treaty between Sweden and Pakistan.
Swedish legal authorities have indicated that Nisar will face trial in Sweden based on the evidence presented. There is also a potential for acquittal if it is determined that he acted in self-defence.
In response, Pakistani police are preparing to transfer all investigative evidence on the case to Swedish courts via Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially communicated this refusal and the subsequent plans for a trial in Sweden to the Sindh High Court.
