In an unexpected turn of events, the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) was defeated by Sweden in a dramatic penalty shootout in the Women’s World Cup.

After the nail-biting encounter, the defending champions were pushed out of the prestigious tournament.

Lina Hurtig’s Decisive Strike Ensures Swedish Victory

The deciding moment of the match came when Lina Hurtig of Sweden made a challenging shot against Alyssa Naeher, the American goalie. The shot ricocheted off Naeher’s hand, hit the top of the net, and was then adjudged to have crossed the goal line, according to the match officials present.

The winning penalties ended with a 5-4 victory in favour of Sweden, marking a triumphant moment for the team.
