CBS dropped the hammer on S.W.A.T., starring Shemar Moore, canceling the police drama after its eighth season wraps in May 2025.
The cancellation news of S.W.A.T., confirmed on March 7, marks the show’s second near-cancellation. After six seasons, it first avoided being canceled in 2023, only to secure two additional ones. However, this time, Deadline reports that CBS did not engage in renewal discussions, sealing the show’s fate.
Sony Pictures Television, the lead studio, pulled off last-minute saves in ‘23 and ‘24 with budget-friendly deals, but S.W.A.T.’s low ratings among CBS dramas spelled doom despite steady Friday slots. The call echoes a network purge, FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International also got the chop, clearing space for fresh blood like Sheriff Country (a Fire Country spinoff) and Boston Blue (extending Blue Bloods). The Equalizer eyes a sixth season, and Watson looks renewal-bound.

Exec producer Andrew Dettmann mourned the loss, saluting the team’s grit. Ex-showrunner Shawn Ryan flagged crew job woes post-S.W.A.T. Canceled. The series, a reboot of the 1975 show and 2003 flick, starred Moore as LAPD’s Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, helmed by Ryan, Dettmann, Justin Lin, and Neal H. Moritz. Will fans rally for a reprieve?
