After enduring over a decade of unresolved abdominal pain following an appendectomy, a shocking discovery was made earlier this month concerning a woman from Sikkim.
The 45-year-old had been suffering since her surgery at the Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial (STNM) Hospital in Gangtok in 2012. Despite numerous consultations and treatments, the cause of her pain remained undiagnosed until an X-ray conducted on October 8 revealed a pair of surgical scissors lodged in her abdomen, left behind during the initial operation.
Her husband reported that after the appendectomy, she frequently experienced abdominal pain, but the medications prescribed only provided temporary relief. The recent discovery led to immediate surgical intervention by medical experts to remove the scissors. The woman is currently stable and recovering well.
The incident has ignited widespread outrage and calls for accountability, prompting an investigation into the hospital’s practices and the oversight of medical authorities in the region.
