On Friday, the Supreme Court slated a February 19 hearing for a pivotal petition challenging the February 8 general elections.
Led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, a trio, including Justice Musarrat Hilali and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, will evaluate the case. Consequently, the court summoned petitioner Ali Khan, who alleges fraud, demanding a new election.
Parties like PTI, PPP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and JUI-F have accused the process of rigging. Such delays in results have undermined the election’s credibility.
Moreover, the U.S. has advocated for a thorough investigation into these claims via Pakistan’s legal framework.
Simultaneously, the SHC’s Chief Justice initiated a tribunal to probe the February 8 election fraud claims, a decision announced last Friday.
This Karachi-based tribunal emerged following the ECP Sindh’s request for a specific body to handle such allegations.
Furthermore, Karachi will host two benches for these inquiries: one under Justice Muhammad Kareem Khan Agha and another under Justice Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry.
Additionally, Justices Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro, Amjad Ali Sahito, and Muhammad Saleem Jessar are tasked with hearing petitions in the Sukkur, Hyderabad, and Larkana divisions.
