Supreme Court of Pakistan’s Seniority List After New Judges Appointment

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has updated its seniority list, placing Justice Mansoor Ali Shah just below the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Yahya Afridi, as the senior-most judge.

Justice Yahya Afridi recently officiated the swearing-in ceremony for six new Supreme Court judges at the apex court. This event marked the culmination of a selection process by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), which he chairs.

The newly appointed judges include Chief Justice Aamer Farooq from the Islamabad High Court, Chief Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui from the Sindh High Court, Chief Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar from the Balochistan High Court and Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim from the Peshawar High Court.

In addition to the permanent appointments, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb also took an oath as an ad hoc judge of the Supreme Court.

The ceremony was well-attended, featuring dignitaries such as the Attorney General of Pakistan, notable lawyers, Supreme Court staff, and other prominent figures.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan made these appointments based on a majority of its membership, reflecting a rigorous selection process to strengthen the judiciary’s ability to uphold justice nationwide. The inclusion of key judicial figures into the Supreme Court promises to enhance the judicial process and maintain the rule of law at the highest levels of the legal framework in Pakistan.
